How to Accept Affirm in Dynamics 365 (Including In-Store)
August 26, 2026
Short answer: Dynamics 365 has no native Affirm support. You can build against Affirm’s API and virtual card system yourself, or connect Dynamics 365 once to a payment connector that already includes Affirm. With SensePass connector route, Affirm works online, by payment link, and at the register through tap-and-pay — without your customer generating a virtual card or installing the Affirm app first.
Affirm is the provider most worth getting right if you sell big-ticket items, because it’s where financing changes what a customer is willing to buy in a single visit.
Why Affirm is a different case from pay-in-four
Klarna and Afterpay are best known for splitting a purchase into four interest-free payments. Affirm plays further up the ticket: longer terms, monthly installments, and 0% APR promotional options on eligible purchases, which makes it the provider that matters for furniture, electronics, home improvement, equipment, and higher-value B2B orders.
That changes the business case. Pay-in-four mostly reduces friction on a purchase the customer was already making. Financing at Affirm’s ticket sizes influences whether the purchase happens at all — and whether the customer buys the better model. Affirm’s own merchant data points to meaningful lifts in conversion and average order value where it’s offered prominently.
If you’re running Dynamics 365 for a business with a high average order value, that’s the case for making financing available at every point of sale, not just the website.
The in-store obstacle: virtual card issuance
Online Affirm is straightforward. In-store is where the implementation gets awkward, and it’s worth understanding before you scope anything.
Affirm’s native in-store model runs on its Virtual Card Network. The customer gets a one-time virtual card — generated in the Affirm app, or via a merchant-initiated flow where your POS calls Affirm’s Store API and Affirm texts the customer a checkout link to complete on their phone. Either way, a card has to be issued before they can pay, and your associate has to guide them through it.
That means three things merchants underestimate: the customer needs the Affirm app or an SMS flow at the counter, your staff need training on a process unlike any other tender, and — if you want the POS-initiated version — someone has to build against Affirm’s Store API and maintain it.
How SensePass adds Affirm to Dynamics 365
SensePass is a payment connector linking your existing Dynamics 365 environment to 100+ payment methods and 50+ processors through one integration. Affirm is already built into it.
No integration project. You don’t build against Affirm’s API, and you don’t maintain a virtual card flow. Affirm is enabled through configuration, and nothing changes inside Business Central, Finance & Operations, or Commerce.
In-store without the virtual card dance. With tap-and-pay, the customer taps their phone on a chargeless SensePass tag and selects Affirm — no app install at the counter, no virtual card to generate, no SMS link to wait for. For a salesperson closing a $2,400 sofa, that difference is the difference between momentum and a stalled sale.
Financing wherever the sale happens. Affirm works in your online checkout, at the register, and via pay-by-link — which matters for quotes, phone orders, and considered purchases where the customer decides at home. Every route reconciles back into Dynamics 365 the same way.
Where this pays off
The pattern is consistent across high-ticket retail: financing offered at the moment of decision converts better than financing discovered later on a website. Furniture and home furnishings retailers see it most sharply — instant financing at the point of sale turns “let me think about it” into a completed order, and often into a larger one.
The same logic applies to B2B sellers running Finance & Operations, where a financing option on a large order can be the difference between a closed deal and a deferred one.
The reconciliation side
Affirm pays out net of its merchant fee on a deferred cycle, and refunds are handled as adjustments rather than mirror-image credits. Posting an Affirm authorization directly to cash will overstate your bank position and create an unexplained gap when the real deposit lands.
The clean pattern — clearing accounts, settlement batches, matched fee and clawback journals — is covered in BNPL reconciliation in Dynamics 365.
Frequently asked questions
Does Dynamics 365 support Affirm natively? No. Adding Affirm requires either a direct integration with Affirm’s API and Virtual Card Network, support from your PSP, or a payment connector like SensePass where Affirm is pre-built.
Can customers use Affirm in-store with Dynamics 365? Yes. With SensePass tap-and-pay, the customer taps their phone on a chargeless tag and pays with Affirm at the register — no virtual card issuance and no app download required.
Do customers need the Affirm app to pay in-store? Not through SensePass. Affirm’s native in-store flow relies on a one-time virtual card generated in the Affirm app or sent as a checkout link by SMS. The tap-and-pay flow removes that step.
What’s the difference between Affirm and pay-in-four providers? Affirm supports longer-term monthly financing and 0% APR promotional options as well as shorter plans, which makes it better suited to high-ticket purchases than pure pay-in-four products like Afterpay.
Can I offer Affirm alongside Klarna and others? Yes. Klarna, Afterpay, and Zip, Sezzle and Splitit run through the same connector, so offering several providers doesn’t multiply the integration work.
Which Dynamics 365 modules does this cover? Business Central, Finance & Operations, and Commerce — the connector sits alongside your environment rather than inside it.
Does it work for phone and remote sales? Yes. A payment link can carry Affirm as an option, which suits quotes and considered purchases completed away from the store.
Offer financing wherever your customer decides
If financing only exists on your website, you’re offering it in one of the places your customers actually buy. One connector puts Affirm in your online checkout, at your counter with no app friction, and in any link you send.
